Walkie Talkie TipsFinesse your Direct Connect® style Check out these features - available on most Nextel phones - and learn how to get right through with style. For more tips on how to use your cell phone like a pro, see Mobile Phone Etiquette. For help using any of these features, check out the user's guide for your phone.
Call Alerts Call Alerts send a series of chirps to the person's phone (or a buzz and a beep if the phone's ringer is turned off). Your contact can then respond immediately using the Direct Connect® walkie-talkie button or respond later at a more convenient time. Be sure to ask people their preference and share yours - do they want to be alerted or is the Direct Connect chirp ok? Remember, the person who responds is considered the call initiator and is billed for both sides of the call. Call Alerts are also helpful when you don't know where your contact is located. Send a Call Alert first so if you contact is in another market, you can avoid additional charges.
Contact Information Likewise, be sure to store your contacts' full Direct Connect number so you can contact them from anywhere on the Nextel National Network. Don't forget the asterisks!

Speakerphone Always let your callers know if they are on speakerphone. It's a polite way to let them know you respect their privacy and also a good way to ensure they do the same for you. Turn your speakerphone off and keep your voice low if your conversation could disturb others.
