Billing and Minutes

  1. How am I charged for Group ConnectSM calls?
    Charges vary by your rate plan and whether or not you purchase additional Group ConnectSM minutes. Here's an overview.

    Plan type How much does it cost? Do minutes count toward Direct Connect® minutes?
    Unlimited Group ConnectSM minutes $25 flat rate per month per phone No
    250 Group ConnectSM minutes $10 at rate per month per phone No – Overage applies ($0.15/minute for each participant on the call)
    Pay-as-you-go with a rate plan that provides unlimited Direct Connect® minutes $0.15 per minute for each participant on the call No
    Pay-as-you-go with all other rate plans No additional charge Yes – Overage applies if you use all your Direct Connect® minutes

    Other things to keep in mind:

    • You are only charged for the calls you initiate.
    • Calls round to the second.
    • Overage charges vary by rate plan.
    • Participants are not charged for Group ConnectSM calls unless there are 6 seconds of silence during the call.
    • The first person to press the Push To TalkSM button after 6 seconds of silence is considered the call initiator and assumes charges for the call going forward.

    To calculate how many minutes you would be billed for a Group ConnectSM call that you initiate, multiply the number of people on the call by the length of the call. For example:

    • 6 people participate in a 2-minute Group ConnectSM call
    • 6 people x 2 minutes = 12 minutes billed to call initiator

    You are not billed for Talkgroup members who cannot be reached because they are out of the home market coverage area or have turned off their phones.

  2. Do the Group ConnectSM calls I make count toward my Direct Connect® minutes?
    If you add Group ConnectSM minutes to your service, then those minutes are used first for your Group ConnectSM calls.

    If you do not add Group ConnectSM minutes, or if you use all of your Group ConnectSM minutes, then your minutes deduct from your monthly allotment of Direct Connect® minutes.

    If you have unlimited Direct Connect® minutes, your Group ConnectSM calls do not deduct from your Direct Connect® minutes.

  3. If others contact me using Group ConnectSM service, does it count toward my minutes?
    No. The person who initiates the call is billed for the minutes and (if applicable) the pay-as-you-go charge.

    However, if you press the walkie-talkie button after 6 seconds of silence pass, then you are considered the call initiator and will be billed for the call going forward.

  4. How can I add Group ConnectSM minutes to my rate plan?
    You can add more Group ConnectSM minutes to your service by contacting a representative. Choose from these options:
    • 250 Group ConnectSM minutes: $10 per month per phone
    • Unlimited Group ConnectSM minutes: $25 per month per phone

  5. What's up with the 6 seconds of silence?
    Walkie-talkie calls automatically end after 6 seconds of silence. The call initiator is charged for the call up to that point. The next person to press the walkie-talkie button is considered the call initiator and assumes charges for the call from that point until it ends or another 6 seconds of silence pass.

  6. If I sign up for Nextel service today and choose not to add Group ConnectSM service at this time, can I add it later?
    Of course! When you are ready to add Group ConnectSM service, contact one of our representatives

  7. Where can I see the billing details for Group ConnectSM calls?
    Your invoice will show billing details for your Group ConnectSM calls. If you have a MyNextel account, you can also view these details at View My Bill.
